BRING A PLANT, GET A PLANT
Welcome back to our garden club with an old-fashioned plant swap! Plan on bringing a nice specimen(s) from your garden, or one that is purchased. Perennials are preferred, houseplants are welcome. In addition to a plant, please bring a non perishable food item for the Glastonbury Food Bank at Riverfront Community Center. Our first meeting will give us plenty of time to chat and visit. Guests are welcome to attend.

GOOD BUGS, BAD BUGS OR BENIGN BUGS?
Pam Cooper will present an interactive look at some insects you may encounter in Connecticut that may be good, bad or essentially do little or no harm. Whether found in gardens, landscapes, lawns or in the wild, most insects are not considered pests, some are considered beneficial, but perhaps not all the time. Pam works at the University of Connecticut Home and Garden Education Center office as a public service gardening specialist and horticultural consultant answering questions on gardening, lawns, native and non-native plants and insects and wildlife issues. Guests are welcome to attend the program that begins at 12:30.

RECYCLING IN GLASTONBURY
Superintendent of Sanitation Mike Manfre will discuss the current state of recycling in Glastonbury as well as our food scraps recycling initiatives. A guest appearance by a repesentative of Murphy Road Recycling will join us to present the new $40 Million recycling facility where our materials get sorted and processed. Guests are welcome to attend the program that begins at 12:30 pm.

ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY
Holiday Luncheon will be at the Wethersfield Country Club at 11:15AM for drinks and socializing. Lunch will be served at Noon, then a Yankee Swap and auctioning off of centerpieces. Members should bring a Christmas or garden-related gift of $20-$25 to swap.

FACTS AND FALLACIES OF ORGANICS
Richard Cowles, from Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station (CAES) will explore the paradoxes found in organic vs. conventional agriculture. Are organically produced fruits and vegetables healthier for us to eat? Are organic standards really better for the environment and more socially responsible? This promises to be a highly informative dsicussion that we will be recalling each time we enter the grocery store. Guests are welcome to attend the program that begins at 12:30 pm.

UNRAVELING THE MYSTERIES OF PRUNING
George Trecina of Land Design & Horticultural Sales, LLC will tell us how to manage our shrubs and trees through proper pruning. George will address certain basic rules that one needs to follow to maintain happy healthy plants that will contribute to the beauty of your landscape. Guests are welcome to attend the program that begins at 12:30 pm.
